Action of active substances
5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan)

5-hydroxytryptophan is obtained from the seeds of a plant Griffonia simplicifolia that grows in Africa. 5-hydroxytryptophan is transformed to serotonin in the organism. It is an active substance that influences mood, working capacity, positive emotions, circadian sleep rhythm. 5-hydroxytryptophan effectively improves mood and sleep, relieves headache and muscle pain, improves nervous system performance, helps to reduce weight because it diminishes appetite.
5-HTP improves mood, reduces migraine pain and fibromyalgia
Newest scientific research proves that MAO activity (monoaminoxidase – enzyme that ferments serotonin) is significantly increased in persons with migraine attack. It was proved after the serotonin metabolite (5-HIAA) was found in urine of the persons with migraine. In the beginning the assumption was that the metabolites appear in urine because of the increased amount of serotonin. However, later the conclusion was made that everything is in opposite way – serotonin is dissociated abnormally fast. It is thought that low serotonin concentration decreases pain threshold for persons with migraine. 5-HTP also decreases migraine pain intensity and frequency.
5-HTP improves sleep
Melatonin is important to sleep. Scientific research proves that 5-HTP shortens the time needed to fall asleep and lowers the number of awakenings during the night.
5-HTP helps to reduce weight
Data show that 600-900 mg of 5-HTP diminish the appetite, fat absorption and stimulates weight loss. It is possible to lose 5 kilograms of weight in three months.

B group vitamins
B group vitamins are necessary for well performance of the central nervous system. They effectively influence protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism. Folio acid participates in metabolism and cells renovation processes.
Vitamins C, E, selenium, beta carotene
Natural antioxidants – vitamins C, E, selenium, beta carotene – have not only antioxidative properties, but they also protect cells from the free radicals damage and slow processes of ageing.

Octacosanol
Octacosanol lowers cholesterol concentration and improves blood circulation.

Scientific researches demonstrating the efficiency
* 13 trials out of 17 that were reviewed confirmed that 5-HTP has antidepressant properties. (Zmilacher K, et al. L-5-hydroxytryptophan alone and in combination with a peripheral decarboxylase inhibitor in the treatment of depression. Neuropsychobiology 1988;20:28-35.)
* Rome university scientists performed double-blind placebo controlled study with 20 overweight women. They were administered 300 mg of 5-HTP and placebo for 6 months. A significant weight loss was noticed in the 5-HTP group and no such effect was observed in placebo group. [7].
* Double-blind study in Switzerland 1991 showed that 5-HTP and tricycle antidepressants effectiveness in treatment of moderate depression is almost equal. [7].
* The study of 5-HTP effect on sleep showed that administration of 600 mg of 5-HTP shortens the time needed to fall asleep and improves the quality of the sleep [7]. It is because 5-HTP increases serotonin concentration that has tiredness inducing property and stimulates melatonin production. [21].
* 124 patients with migraine headache study showed that 5-HTP in 70 percent of cases decreased headache intensity and frequency. [7].
* 107 patients with unipolar and bipolar depression study showed that 5-HTP in 69 percent of cases significantly improved general status without any observation of the side effects. (Sano, 1972)
